This Mini-dictionary is based on the Longman WordWise Dictionary. As in the full-size dictionary, there is all the information you need to know about a word.

 

What information does the Mini-dictionary provide?

 

• the pronunciation of the word

 

• a simple definition

 

• an example sentence with the word in context

 

• information about grammar, word combinations, usage and opposites

 

• a space for you to write a translation

 

Which words are in the Mini-dictionary?

 

The Mini-dictionary only includes words and phrases that appear in New Cutting Edge Elementary Students’ Book or on the Class Cassette/Audio CD. It does not include very simple words that you know already or the meanings of words which are not used in the Students' Book.

 

How does the Mini-dictionary present grammar?

 

• Every word in the Mini-dictionary is labelled to show its part of speech. The main labels used are:

modal verb preposition pronoun

 

• Most nouns are also labelled C (countable) or U (uncountable).
